The CEN and CENELEC Joint Technical Committee 22 (CEN/CLC/JTC 22) is developing standards relevant to quantum technologies. European experts are invited to contact their National Standards Body (NSB) or National Committee (NC), and contribute to this standards development.
Founded in 2022, the CEN/CLC/JTC 22 on Quantum Technologies has started its work, building upon two deliverables from the CEN and CENELEC Focus Group on Quantum Technologies (FGQT, 2020-2023): Standardization Roadmap on Quantum Technologies, and Quantum Technologies Use Cases. The CEN/CLC/JTC 22 shall produce standardization deliverables in the field of quantum technologies. This field includes quantum enabling technologies, quantum sub-systems, quantum platforms & systems, quantum composite systems and applications.
The standardization deliverables cover but are not limited to the following areas: quantum metrology, sensing and enhanced imaging; quantum computing and simulation; quantum communication and quantum cryptography. The CEN/CLC/JTC 22 will provide guidance to other technical committees concerned with quantum technologies.
The CEN/CLC/JTC 22 shall also consider the adoption of and contribution to relevant international standards and standards from other organizations, like ISO/IEC JTC 1 and its subcommittees. The CEN/CLC/JTC 22 shall produce standardization deliverables to address European market and societal needs, as well as underpinning EU legislation, policies, principles, and values.
The development of standardization deliverables happens in coordination with its experts, its NSBs and NCs, and other SDO’s, with support from the European Quantum Flagship, the European Quantum Industry Consortium, and other stakeholders.
The work of CEN/CLC/JTC 22 is organised in a plenary committee and four working groups (WGs). Access to the working documents via the hyperlinks is password protected.

How to become a member ?
All individual experts active in the European quantum-technologies field can join the CEN/CLC/JTC 22 and have access to the documents and meetings once they are registered by their National Standards Body or National Committee. If you are an expert and would like to join the CEN/CLC/JTC 22, please contact your NSB or NC about this.
For European organisations interested in becoming a member of the CEN/CLC/JTC 22, or for international organisations willing to establish a liaison, please contact the CEN and CENELEC Project Manager Lucia LANFRI.
How to get access to the documents ?
A membership to the CEN/CLC/JTC 22 is a requirement to access all documents. They are developed within CEN/CLC/JTC 22 and can be found on the Documents portal of CEN and CENELEC. All meetings are announced at the Meetings' page. To get an overview of current projects, please have a look at the JTC 22 Work Programme.
If there are any questions, please contact the CEN and CENELEC Account manager or the CEN/CLC/JTC 22 secretariat.
