CEN/TC 191 'Fixed firefighting systems' produces standards relating to suppression systems, components and media that are essential for ensuring the fire protection of buildings and their occupants. The published standards provide guidelines for the design, construction, and maintenance of fixed firefighting systems primarily for installation in buildings, of components for fixed smoke and heat ventilation systems as well as many other firefighting types of equipment. More than 20 European standards published by the committee are cited in the EU Official Journal under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) EU 305/2011. A similar number of harmonized standards are currently under development.
CEN/TC 192 'Fire and Rescue Service Equipment' has been responsible for the development of 30 ‘state of the art’ equipment product standards ranging from high rise firefighting vehicles to firefighting hose, the majority of which are harmonized standards under either the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC or the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) EU 305/2011.
Alarm systems are essential for the economic success of almost all sectors of European markets. Rapid technological developments and policy developments have brought new challenges for alarm systems and the alarms systems’ market. Both European and international standards are the baseline for global business.
CLC/TC 79 ‘Alarm systems’ has long contributed to the definition of performance standards for alarm systems for intruder and hold-up alarm systems, access control systems, periphery protection systems, social alarms and CCTV systems. Its standard publications consist of the services aspects, such as planning and design, engineering, installation and handover.
Maintenance and repair of fire safety and/or security systems are covered by CEN-CENELEC/JTC 4 'Services for fire and security systems'. The standards developed by the committee set out requirements for quality of services supplied by security companies and the competencies of their involved staff responsible for the planning and design, engineering, installation and handover, maintenance and repair of fire safety and security systems.
