The area of gas supply covers all issues related to gas supply systems, including associated plants, from the input of gas to the transport system (e.g. gas transmission, distribution systems and storage) up to the inlet connection of gas appliances.
Standardization in this field plays an important role in the context of the liberalisation and globalization of markets, where both gas suppliers and manufacturers are currently facing a new economic reality, characterised by increasing competition and the need for cost effectiveness, under which efficiency, quality, and cost reduction are key elements.
In addition, the composition of natural gas varies from one country to another. As a result, gas with different qualities is used around EU Member States. Quality standards are important for both the safe and secure delivery and use of gas around Europe.
