Standards underpin global trading models, acting as a common language of communities of actors agreeing with one another through consensus on how to behave.
Standards create markets, support global competitiveness, overcome technical barriers to trade and foster market access. Standards can lift the research and innovation outcomes and take them right ahead of the curve into the work of making markets before they exist, ahead of their material existence in the world.
CEN and CENELEC Strategy 2030 focuses on 5 main Strategic Goals, including to strengthen leadership and ambition at the international level.
CEN and CENELEC international Policy activities focus on:

- Promoting the European Standardization System (ESS) to other regions, sharing its strengths, experience and best practices.
- Enhancing market access opportunities for European industry through increased technical alignment with other regions and countries;
To achieve these objectives:
CEN and CENELEC have developed a network of partnerships with national and regional standardization bodies outside Europe.
