In the past years the role of standardization as a bridge between research activities and the market has been increasingly recognized, both by EU institutions and by R&D stakeholders.
The European framework programme for R&D, Horizon Europe, focuses on market take-up of research results and innovation. Standardization is identified in Horizon Europe as one of the measures that will support this. This growing relevance of standardization in the context of research projects and the valorisation of the resulting knowledge is demonstrated by the growing number of call topics in which a reference to standardization is made.
The topics addressed by Horizon Europe cover sectors that are relevant for standardization activities, including health, security, digital society and much more. Additional details can be found in the section 'Project calls with reference to standardization'
Horizon Europe projects are able to address standardization in different ways, including contributing to existing standards and developing new standardization deliverables.
Information on how to participate in CEN and CENELEC standardization activities is documented in Guide 23 'Research Consortium Bridge- Addressing Research and Innovation in European Standardization activities and deliverables' and Guide 29 'CEN and/or CENELEC Workshop Agreements – A rapid way to standardization'. Or you can download the brochure 'Standardization in Research Projects'
Horizon Europe Work Programmes are regularly screened for call topics making references to standardizations.
