In 2020, one trillion microchips were manufactured around the world. This technology has grown as a strategic field for Europe to take leadership in its future digitalization.
Following the European Chips Act, the European Commission has established the need for microchips to be the foundation for emerging technologies to rise in Europe (e.g. highly automated cars, cloud, IoT, connectivity, space, defence and supercomputers). However, the increasing complexity involved in the development, integration, and post-deployment use of microelectronics presents new security risks and vulnerabilities. To fully benefit from the future of microchips, European stakeholders need a common approach that enables trust, security, quality and interoperability along the entire value chain.
This stakeholders’ workshop will begin a deep dive into the growing landscape of the microchip value chain in Europe and the needs of standards for certifications of chips in terms of security, authenticity, reliability.
