The new EU Nature Restoration Law is the first continent-wide, comprehensive law of its kind and is a key element of the EU Biodiversity Strategy, which sets binding targets to restore degraded ecosystems, in particular those with the most potential to capture and store carbon and to prevent and reduce the impact of natural disasters. This webinar will present core information on the Nature Restoration Law and related activities and investigate the potential of standardization to support the objectives of the Nature Restoration Law and biodiversity policy in general.
The webinar will in particular:
- summarize the Nature Restoration Law and related activities,
- explain how standardization can and does already support legislation, in particular related to biodiversity,
- give examples of standardization work on biodiversity, e.g. of ISO/TC 331 “Biodiversity” which develops international standards potentially to be adopted on European level,
- give a civil society/NGO perspective on the Nature Restoration Law and the role of Standards in that context.
