CEN Workshop proposal on 'Key factors for the successful implementation of urban biowaste selective collection schemes’ (KEY-BIOWASTE).
Every year each European citizen produces on average 200 kg of municipal biowaste. The municipal biowaste management systems that currently exist in Europe do not give a second life to materials or resources contained in the biowaste.
One of the main challenges for biowaste management is to integrate a valorisation system in a city context, and to recover products with a market value. In order to implement successful valorisation schemes, to produce high value products with attractive and sustainable business cases, it is imperative to feed the processes with high quality biowaste. High quality biowaste rely on efficient selective collection systems and pre-treatments.
The primary objective of the new CEN workshop is to propose cities ways to improve the quality of the selectively collected biowaste, enabling the development of a robust biowaste valorisation processes.
The proposer and secretariat holder of this workshop is the Spanish national organization for standardization, UNE.
