CEN and CENELEC welcome the launch of the European Standardization Panel Survey on World Standards Day

A first edition of the European Standardization Panel Survey (ESPS) was launched on 14 October, on the occasion of World Standards Day

The Survey presents over 100.000 European standardization experts with an opportunity to address their innovation needs, and to gain a better understanding of the industry’s needs for standardization deriving from Research & Innovation (R&I).

The survey is now accessible and will remain open until the end of 2023, targeting a large-scale population of European industry. This will ensure a balanced representation of companies of different sizes and from a wide variety of technology domains.

TAKE THE SURVEY

The survey has been developed by Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) with the support of the Department of Innovation Economics at the Technical University of Berlin, involving Prof. Knut Blind, chair of CEN-CENELEC working group STAIR (Standards, Innovation & Research).

This survey will complement the recently adopted Code of Practice on standardization in the European Research Area, with evidence-based results on the role of standardization in support of innovation policies.  The results will be published in early 2024 and will ultimately support the development of recommendations for policymakers, industry representatives and standardization bodies to create a match between industry’s demand for R&I-based standards and their current supply.

Recommendations will help future beneficiaries of public R&I programmes to pinpoint opportunities and techniques where standardization can be used to increase the impact of their research projects.

CEN and CENELEC welcome this initiative and encourage their Members and stakeholders to promote the survey, in line with the commitment to strengthening the links between standards and innovation promoted in the CEN and CENELEC Strategy 2030.
