The CEN-CENELEC Adaptation to Climate Change Coordination Group resumes work on Climate Adaptation

The CEN-CENELEC Adaptation to Climate Change Coordination Group (ACC-CG) is pleased to announce that it has resumed its vital work after a period of inactivity.

With the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and shifting climate patterns, the need for robust climate adaptation measures has never been more urgent. Societies and industries must adapt to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience against these unprecedented changes.

Extreme weather events not only cause significant environmental damage but also impose heavy economic costs on communities, businesses, and governments, including property damage, business interruptions, and substantial recovery expenses. Integrating climate adaptation into standards is crucial to safeguarding infrastructure, economies, and communities from the adverse impacts of climate change.

The ACC-CG is committed to advancing climate resilience through standardization. Here are the key activities currently underway:

  • Raise Awareness and Foster Motivation: Promoting the importance of climate adaptation in standardization and developing new guidance documents aligned with the latest scientific evidence.
  • Assistance and Build Capacity: Supporting Technical Committees (TCs) by providing training, resources, and support networks to integrate climate adaptation into standards.
  • Address Complexity of Future Climate Information: Developing guidance to incorporate future climate projections into standards, in collaboration with climate science specialists.
  • Foster Collaboration and Information Exchange: Encouraging dialogue and knowledge sharing among TCs, standardization bodies, climate scientists, and policymakers to create robust climate adaptation standards.

Why get in touch with the ACC-CG?

  • Stay informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest advancements and guidance in climate adaptation standards.
  • Get support: Access training and resources to help your committee address climate change challenges.
  • Collaborate: Join a network of experts and stakeholders to share insights and develop effective climate resilience strategies

By working together, we can develop standards that enhance climate resilience and mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change on our societies and environments.
