A busy summer at the Slovenian Institute for Standardization: Preparing for new projects

At the Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST), summer was anything but quiet, as SIST diligently prepared for numerous fall projects that bring fresh opportunities for learning and collaboration.

On September 2nd, SIST launched a new online course titled Faster and Better Understanding of the New Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on Machinery, alongside a comparison with the previous Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. The new Machinery Regulation introduces significant changes that will impact businesses. To help companies adapt more easily, SIST collaborated with their leading machinery safety expert, Mr Milan Srna, to design a modern online course, accessible anytime and anywhere. The course offers clear explanations, an overview of the changes, and valuable tips for successful implementation of the new regulation, with a particular focus on the differences between the old and the new legislation.

SIST is also excited to announce the Autumn School of Standardization, which will take place on 13-14 November at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana. This event will focus on the theme of quality and will be particularly interesting to students of various faculties looking to deepen their knowledge of the role of standards in business processes. In addition to the theoretical part, SIST will host practical workshops and presentations of best practices from Slovenian successful companies. The Autumn School will conclude with a quiz, where SIST will select the new Ambassadors of standardization for 2025.

At the same time, preparations are in full swing for the 2nd RAST Conference, which will be held on 14 October, on the occasion of World Standards Day. The conference will combine topics such as development, innovation and standards, with the aim of highlighting the crucial role of standardization in ensuring the quality and safety of products and processes, focusing on the role of companies in shaping European and international standards.

Among all the new things SIST is working on, this year, they added customer testimonials to their portfolio of successful projects to emphasize the importance of standards, no matter what the work is. In this light, SIST shares a special message from one of their clients, who was also ‘Engineer of the Year’ in 2023, Ljupka Vrteva: "Standards connect us and guide us towards a safer and more successful world. Without standards, the risks in innovation would be much greater, and their importance is invaluable for the future."

With all the projects, SIST is working hard to raise awareness of the importance of standardization because, as their slogan says, the world is safe and sound when standards are around!
