This year’s Autumn School of Standardization, held on 13-14 November 2024 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana, once again confirmed the growing interest in standardization among young people and companies in Slovenia. The event attracted as many as 50 students from various faculties, with the majority coming from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, and the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. The enthusiasm for the topic of standardization, which paves the way for quality, safety, and efficiency, was truly remarkable.
The first day was dedicated to theory. Through a series of workshops, students explored the importance of standards, their role in everyday practices, and ways to access these essential documents. Opening remarks were delivered by Dr Marko Topič, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Dr Janko Drnovšek, and Mag. Marjetka Strle Vidali, who emphasized the mission and significance of SIST in national, European, and international contexts.
The second day featured inspiring examples of best practices. Representatives from leading Slovenian companies, such as Elaphe, Petrol, ETI Elektroelement, Ensol 360, and MESI, shared their experiences, highlighting the critical role that standards play in their work. Particular attention was drawn to Hana and Erik, the current ambassadors of standardization, who captivated the students with their stories and encouraged them to engage actively in the world of standards.
The highlight of the event was the selection of the new young ambassadors of standardization for 2025. The titles were awarded to Eva Pevec from the Faculty of Economics and Aleksander Velkavrh from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Their mission will be to promote the importance of standards among young people and foster understanding of their key role in the modern world. More about Eva and Aleksander will be revealed soon.
The Slovenian Institute for Standardization is incredibly proud that the Autumn School of Standardization continues to grow year by year, attracting more and more young talent. SIST thanks all participants and lecturers who, with their energy and expertise, contributed to the success of this event. SIST is already looking forward to the 2025 Autumn School of Standardization, which promises even more participants, content, and inspiration.
