CEN and CENELEC have provided recommendations to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on how standardization can support the goals of the Water Resilience Strategy.
Water is one of our most precious and essential resources. The upcoming EU Water Resilience Strategy is an invaluable opportunity for Europe to solve our water challenges and ensure the safety and quality of our water supply. By leveraging European standardization, the EU Water Resilience Strategy can be more effectively implemented, ensuring that policy actions are technically sound and aligned with the latest innovations in water management.

By leveraging European standardization, the EU Water Resilience Strategy can be more effectively implemented, ensuring that policy actions are technically sound and aligned with the latest innovations in water management.
CEN and CENELEC, as two of the three European Standardization Organizations, have long played an important role in creating European standards that support European environmental goals and the implementation of European legislation and initiatives. The work of CEN and CENELEC on water standards is a strong example of this. Two Technical Committees, TC 230 ‘Water Analysis’ and TC 164 ‘Water Supply’, develop standards to provide safe and steady water supply.
CEN and CENELEC have extensive experience in developing standardization deliverables for the following legislation:
CEN and CENELEC believe that standardization would be an invaluable tool for the success of the Water Resilience Strategy. To enhance this integration, CEN and CENELEC recommend that standardization is incorporated into this policy framework, that this process should follow a collaborative report, and that the EU should support funding for standardization for water resilience.
These recommendations and the role of standardization in water resilience is further elaborated in the CEN and CENELEC response to the European Commission Call for Evidence on this topic.
