Austrian Standards is taking a pioneering role and is the first standardization organization in Europe to offer objective evidence in the form of certification for people who can support AI projects in the spirit of digital humanism. The first globally available standard for ethical system design ISO/IEC/IEEE 24748-7000 forms the basis for this, in combination with elements of the management standard ISO/IEC 42001 on AI. Responsible handling of AI and digital data requires predetermined framework conditions, including reliable standards.
On January 21, the awards for Digital Humanism were presented at the ORF Österreichischer Rundfunk (Austrian national public broadcaster). Austrian Standards is particularly pleased that standards played an important role that evening. The award had a total of 3 categories in the areas of projects/products/services, organizations and people who design digital technologies in the spirit of humanism. And with the Austrian Standards personal certification P90 “Value-based Engineering Ambassador” (VbE-A), they came in second place. Veronika Hofer, Business Development Certification, submitted for the award and accepted the prize.
Here is the jury's statement:
“The fantastic and innovative thing about this courageous project is that it is a clear sign that Digital Humanism is not just a ‘nice to have’, but a key future competency. Because successful implementation of Digital Humanism determines one of the most important resources for future competitiveness, namely TRUST, and trust requires competence and certification - that is clearly achieved with this project.”
Warm congratulations also go to Carina Zehetmaier, chair of Working Group 42 on Artificial Intelligence at Austrian Standards since October 2024, and to Clara Neppel from IEEE for her valuable contribution in this important field for the future.
