SIST Introduces New Ambassadors of Standardization for 2025

At the 2nd Autumn School, held on November 13 and 14, 2024, SIST selected two new ambassadors of standardization from among 60 participants. Eva Pevec from the Faculty of Economics and Aleksander Velkavrh from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering have joined Hana and Erik, expanding the SIST family of young ambassadors to now include four members.

Below, the new ambassadors share their impressions of the Autumn School and their expectations as young ambassadors of standardization.

EVA

Decision to apply to be a Young Ambassador

My decision to apply as a Young Ambassador for Standardization was primarily driven by my desire to grow personally and gain a deeper understanding of the field that profoundly influences our daily lives but remains relatively unknown to the general public. Standardization is key to ensuring quality, safety and sustainability across numerous industries, which sparked my curiosity to explore this topic further. I believe that young people's fresh ideas and energy can help raise awareness of standards and their significance for our generation.

Experience at the Autumn School of Standardization

Attending the Autumn School of Standardization was both an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The programme was thoughtfully designed to provide participants with an insightful introduction to the world of standardization. Through lectures and workshops, we gained a comprehensive understanding of the field, even for those encountering the concept of standardization for the first time.

I was particularly impressed by the presentations of experts who shared their firsthand knowledge and practical experiences. Additionally, I had the opportunity to meet peers from different backgrounds who share similar interests in this field. Their enthusiasm was inspiring and gave me even greater motivation to pursue my role as a Young Ambassador.

Expectations for the year as a Young Ambassador

My main expectation for the year ahead is to have many opportunities to raise awareness of the importance of standards among young people. I look forward to being involved in innovative projects that showcase the practical application of standards in everyday life and to contributing my own ideas to these initiatives. Furthermore, I am excited about gaining new knowledge and experiences while building a network of connections that will undoubtedly benefit me in the future, both professionally and personally.

By combining learning, promotion, and collaboration, I am confident in my ability to successfully fulfil the responsibilities of a young ambassador for standardization. At the same time, I hope to show how standards play a pivotal role in making our world better and more connected.

ALEKSANDER

Background

My name is Aleksander Velkavrh, I am 19 years old, and I come from Notranje Gorice. I attended Brezovica Primary School near Ljubljana and the Secondary School of Technical Sciences in Šiška, where I studied Mechatronics. Currently, I am pursuing a degree in Applied Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. I am passionate about robotics and automation, which is why I am focusing my education and career in this field. In my free time, I enjoy music, sports, and working on creative projects.

Experience at the Autumn School of Standardization

I first learned about the Autumn School of Standardization at a stand set up at our faculty and decided to attend. During the Autumn School, we learned what standards are and why they are so important. Various companies also presented their work and explained how standards had helped them grow and develop. I gained a lot of valuable knowledge at the Autumn School of Standardization, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in standards and technology.

Decision to apply to be a Young Ambassador

Standards are an integral part of our daily lives, even though we may not always recognize them. Almost all products on the market must meet at least some standards. These standards can serve as guidelines or rules, and in some cases, they are required for a product to be placed on the market. In the field of robotics and automation, understanding standards is essential for creating optimal and safe products.

This is why I decided to become a young ambassador for standardization. I will strive to raise awareness of standards among a broader audience and encourage greater respect for their importance.
