Stair4Security project: conclusions and results

 

STAIR4SECURITY (Standards, Innovation and Research for Security) is a project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. The project has been coordinated by CEN with the involvement of four National Standardization Bodies (AFNOR, ASI, DIN and SIS), together with the Chairperson of CEN/TC 391 'Societal and Citizen Security', TFC Research and Innovation Limited, National University of Ireland Galway, and KPMG Future Analytics. The project started in January 2019 and  ended in June 2021.

In traditional industrial robotics, the operations of robot and operator are complementary and belong to separated workspaces. In the last years, we are witnessing the increasing implementation of robots and robotic devices in several other domains, such as minimally invasive surgery, healthcare, rehabilitation, agriculture and logistics.

The General Court of the EU affirms copyright of harmonized standards

 

On 14 July 2021, the General Court of the EU ruled in the Public.Resource.Org, Inc. and Right to Know CLG v European Commission case (T-185/19) that the European Commission is right to deny free access without charge to harmonized standards (hENs).

CEN/CLC/WS 018 - Guidelines for the assessment of resilience of transport infrastructure to potentially disruptive events - Commenting phase for the CWA

 

This WS developed the CWA (CEN-CENELEC Workshop Agreement) ‘Guidelines for the assessment of resilience of transport infrastructure to potentially disruptive events’. This CWA describes a methodology for infrastructure managers to properly measure the Level of Service (LoS) provided by, and the resilience of, their transport infrastructure to natural hazards. These steps will ensure that infrastructure managers can systematically identify appropriate resilience enhancing actions and ensure the effective allocation of limited resources.

Nominations for Standards+Innovation Awards 2021

 

Standards+Innovation Awards are back for their third year. The Awards celebrate the contributions of researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs to standardization and acknowledge the important contribution of research and innovation to standardization. This year they include the annual Project Award, presented to a European research / innovation project (H2020 / Horizon Europe) who successfully contributed to standardization, and Individual researcher/innovator Award, presented to an individual who successfully introduced her/his research outcome or innovation into standardization.

CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies agreed new governance arrangements that will provide a category of full membership for British Member BSI

 

On Thursday 24 June, the CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies overwhelmingly agreed to revise the membership arrangements in their statutes, reflecting the UK’s departure from the EU. The agreement comes after careful consideration by the CEN and CENELEC members of the impacts of the UK’s exit from the EU on the European standardization system and on the organizations' membership statutes.
