Brussels/Milan, 19 June 2020 - CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, and its Member UNI, the Italian National Standardization Institute, are happy to congratulate Mr Stefano Calzolari for his election as the next President of CEN.
As of 1st of April 2020, CEN and CENELEC will start implementing the ‘Flexible Standards Development Process’, as decided by their Technical Boards. The process applies to Work Items for homegrown CEN and/or CENELEC standards, and CEN standards under Vienna Agreement with CEN lead.
Brussels 20 March 2020 - In response to the coronavirus outbreak, CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, and CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, agreed, in collaboration with all their Members and after the urgent request from the European Commission, to make freely available a series of European standards (ENs) for medical devices and personal protective equipment used in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the main benefits of European standards is that they make the products we use daily safer. This value is evident in EN IEC 62115:2020 “Electric toys – Safety”, which has been recently published together with its European amendment A11:2020.
In Europe, the number of accidents on fairground attractions remains relatively low: 5.7 injuries per million visitors, with 72% of accidents on fixed attractions due to visitors’ behaviour, compared to 19% attributable to operational causes and 9% to technical causes.
Today Ms Elena Santiago Cid, Director General of CEN and CENELEC, officially signed UNECE’s Declaration on Gender Responsive Standards and Standards Development together with 19 of CEN and CENELECs’ national members. With this signature, CEN and CENELEC pledge to support the creation of gender responsive standards.
