A new macroeconomic study reveals the substantial benefits of standards in fostering economic growth. Looking at the evidence from six Northern European countries, the study finds that 25 % of labour productivity growth in the past decades is associated with increased standardization as well as 9 % of total exports growth. 

Brussels, 9 June - With the publication of the Net-Zero Industry Act, the EU took a decisive step to support the strategic technologies that will be essential to power the green transition and equip the European industry with the tools to lead this transformation. A stakeholders’ workshop organised by CEN and CENELEC on Thursday 8 June explored how standards can drive the future of CleanTech in Europe. 

Brussels, 17 March - In 2023, the Single Market celebrates its 30th anniversary. The CEN and CENELEC community is happy to join the European institutions in this important celebration, and looks forward to harnessing the full power of standards to ensure the Single Market continues delivering on its promises for all Europeans. 

On Wednesday 1 March, CEN and CENELEC’s Director General, Elena Santiago Cid, received from the hands of Maive Rute, the European Commission’s Chief Standardization Officer, the new Roadmap on hydrogen standardization. CEN and CENELEC welcome the publication of this important document and are committed to collaborating to the roll out of large-scale hydrogen solutions across the EU.

Brussels, 20 January - On Friday, 20 January, the Presidents of CEN and CENELEC participated in the inaugural meeting of the High-Level Forum on European Standardization. The event was an opportunity to initiate a collective reflection on future standardization priorities in support of European policies and the Single Market.

CEN, CENELEC and their Swedish members, SIS and SEK, welcome Sweden’s Presidency of the EU Council and are ready to work together towards a greener, more secure and freer Europe. 

CEN and CENELEC are happy to welcome the standardization bodies of Ukraine (DSTU), Georgia (GEOSTM) and Moldova (ISM) as Affiliates. This decision furthers the consolidation of the links between the EU and the three Eastern Partnership countries.

On 14 October 2022, CEN and CENELEC join the international standardization community in celebrating World Standards Day. Under the motto “Shared visions for a better world”, the event is an opportunity to showcase the many ways in which international standards can contribute to building a sustainable future.

Brussels/Prague – 8 July 2022, At a pivotal time in Europe, CEN, CENELEC and their Czech Member ÚNMZ welcome the opportunity to play a key role in contributing to the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. For the next six months, we will work closely with the Presidency to leverage the power of European Standards in the context of a changing Europe. 

Brussels 9 June 2022 - CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, and ASTM International have agreed to extend and expand a Technical Cooperation Agreement from 2019 with the objective to broaden and facilitate global dialogue and coordination in specific standardization areas of mutual interest.
