Brussels, 30 October 2020 - The potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the healthcare sector is huge: yet, there are still some challenges to the adoption of this new technology in Europe, such as interoperability, data quality, cybersecurity or trustworthiness. On Tuesday 27th October, CEN and CENELEC held an online workshop dedicated to exploring the role standards can play in fostering the full deployment of AI in the healthcare industry.
On 14 October 2020, CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, the three official European Standardization Organizations, join the international standardization community in celebrating World Standards Day. By focusing on the environment, this year’s edition aims to raise awareness on the potential of standards to help tackle the climate crisis.
Brussels, 18 September 2020 - On 16 September, CEN and CENELEC officers participated to the virtual workshop “Empowering European Standardisation for a Successful Green Deal”, organised by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in the framework of the German Presidency of the EU Council. The event saw the participation of European Commissioner Thierry Breton, together with a series of high level speakers coming from the European and national institutions, business, the standardization community and civil society.

Brussels 20 March 2020 - In response to the coronavirus outbreak, CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, and CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, agreed, in collaboration with all their Members and after the urgent request from the European Commission, to make freely available a series of European standards (ENs) for medical devices and personal protective equipment used in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today Ms Elena Santiago Cid, Director General of CEN and CENELEC, officially signed UNECE’s Declaration on Gender Responsive Standards and Standards Development together with 19 of CEN and CENELECs’ national members. With this signature, CEN and CENELEC pledge to support the creation of gender responsive standards.
