Considering the recent EU proposal for a Regulation on the Safety of Toys, the revision of the Toy Safety Directive, and – most importantly - the upcoming holidays, CEN and CENELEC reflect on the role of European Standards to ensure that all toys traded in the Single Market are safe.
On Monday 4 December 2023, eleven experts holding the Chair or Secretariat of a CEN and CENELEC Technical Committee (TC) were celebrated at the CEN and CENELEC Technical Body Officer Awards. The ceremony took place in CEN and CENELEC’s Brussels headquarters.
CEN and CENELEC, together with the Hellenic Organization for Standardization (ELOT), joined the Knowledge Valorisation event in Athens on November 29 to deliver a training on the implementation of the Code of Practice for Researchers on Standardization in the European Research Area.
The 28th United Nations Climate Change (COP 28) is taking place from the 30 November to 12 December 2023. To welcome this opportunity to make progress in the global effort towards fighting climate change, CEN and CENELEC look at the standards that are contributing to a greener Single Market.
CEN/TC 474, a new Technical Committee on COշ capture, transportation, utilization, storage (CCUS) and carbon accounting, has been established. The first meeting will be held on 5 and 6 February 2024 at the CEN and CENELEC Management Centre (CCMC) in Brussels.
Brussels welcomed the second meeting of the European Commission’s High-Level Forum on European Standardization (HLF) on 30 November 2023. The gathering brought together high level representatives of government with c-level leaders throughout industry to discuss the future of European standardization.
On 5 July 2023, the European Commission published their proposal for the revision of the Waste Framework Directive, whose primary aim is to update its approach to food and textile waste. In a policy paper written in response to the proposal, CEN and CENELEC welcome the increased focus on these two types of waste and put forward suggestions on how to implement the revision.
CEN and CENELEC, together with the Portuguese Institute for Quality (IPQ), joined the Knowledge Valorisation event in Lisbon on November 14-15 to deliver a training on the implementation of the Code of Practice for Researchers on Standardization in the European Research Area.
The Meeting Standards Campaign, an awareness-raising initiative organised by SBS, will take place between 14 and 21 November. A wide variety of events and activities are offered, both online and offline.
The 2023 edition of the CEN and CENELEC Standards+Innovation Awards was presented on 26 October 2023 as part of the EU stakeholder event “Making research results work for society”.
