The twin green and digital transitions open new opportunities for the European industry and citizens, in a quickly changing global scenario. But does Europe have what it takes? The standardization activities of CEN and CENELEC for the transport sector on interoperability and safety requirements are well known. But CEN and CENELEC are also very active in another key topic for the transport industry: the environmental impact and circularity of materials used for vehicles and transport infrastructure.
The EU Industry Days are Europe’s flagship annual event focussing on key industrial policy discussions, connecting industrial frontrunners, and boosting the knowledge base of European industry. Every year, they provide an opportunity to companies, entrepreneurs, organisations, national ministries, regional authoritie,s and other industrial stakeholders to organise their own sessions as part of the official programme.
The CEN and CENELEC Standards+Innovation Awards acknowledge and celebrate the important contributions of Researchers, Innovators and Entrepreneurs to Standardization. On 26 October, for its fifth edition, we will host the 2023 Awards Ceremony.
This European Standard specifies requirements and test methods for oil lamps used in households, in restaurants, in recreational facilities and in similar areas for decorative purposes and to create an atmospheric illumination.
On 27 April, the European Commission proposed a Regulation on Standard Essential Patents (SEP) and launched a consultation for public feedback. CEN and CENELEC prepared a position paper in response to this consultation, outlining the role of the European Standardization System in SEP and proposing changes to the text to better reflect this role.
On 31 July 2023, the European Commission adopted the Delegated Act on the first set of European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). CEN and CENELEC welcome its adoption and the recent changes made to include reference to standards developed by CEN, CENELEC, ISO and IEC.
As a result of an extensive survey in 2022, the International Federation of Standards Users (IFAN) have recently published the International Standards User Report 2023.
The new Regulation (EU) 2022/2480 of 14 December 2022, amending Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012 and focusing on the decisions on European standardization organisations concerning European standards and European standardization deliverables, will be applicable as of 9 July 2023.
The call for CEN and CENELEC Members to submit their nominations to the 2023 edition of Standards + Innovation Awards closed on 30 June 2023. A total of 38 nominations presented by 17 different CEN and CENELEC Members have been submitted.
