Brussels/Lisbon, 18 January 2021 - As responses to the COVID-19 crisis have shown, European standards play a fundamental role in contributing to the EU’s economic and social well-being. Now it is time for Europe to look to the future and deliver on its promises to achieve a fair, green and digital economy. European standardization is in the frontline to contribute to the ambitions of the new Portuguese Presidency of the EU.

Concentrated solar power (CSP) is an important building block in installing a secure, competitive and sustainable energy system.

This CEN Workshop plans to share feedbacks on standardization needs in social responsibility, to analyse and to describe the current and the potential future trends in relation to the Agenda 2030 (SDGs): poverty and inequalities, demography, environmental degradation and climate change, shocks and crises, development cooperation and financing for development and technological innovation.

Standards have a fundamental value in supporting and mainstreaming research and innovation. Yet, this value is very often misunderstood or underrated, also by policy makers – with very serious consequences for the ability of innovation ecosystems to scale up. In the field of Ecodesign and Energy Labelling, CEN and CENELEC develop European Standards that provide dedicated methods for measuring the performance of various energy-related products against the requirements determined on individual product measures adopted under the Ecodesign Framework Directive (2009/125/EC) and the Energy Labelling Framework Regulation (EU) 2017/1369.
