Two European experts are among the awardees of IEC’s 2022 Thomas Edison Awards

Two European standardization experts, Beatriz Novel and Valérie Demassieux, are among the recipients of the 2022 Thomas A. Edison Awards by the IEC, the International Electrotechnical Committee. The awards were presented officially on 1 November during the IEC General Meeting that took place this week in San Francisco.

Read CEN and CENELEC's Position Paper on Common charger agreement – Challenges and perspectives for European Standardization

On 4 October 2022, the EU Parliament voted in favour of adopting a common charger for the EU single market, through an amendment to the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), which establishes a single charging solution for small and medium size electronic devices regardless of their manufacturer. Those devices shall be equipped with USB-C receptable at the device side by 2024 to access the EU market. The same requirements will also become applicable to laptops in 2026.

Read SBS' position paper on the Commission proposal for a new Regulation on Ecodesign

On 30 March, the Commission issued its proposal for a new Regulation on Ecodesign for Sustainable Products (ESPR), which includes a series of measures Member States and the Commission are required to take to help SMEs with the implementation of the future Regulation. Moreover, it proposes the creation of an Ecodesign Forum to provide advice to the Commission on the Ecodesign working plan, in setting priority product groups and ecodesign requirements.
