For this end-of-year edition of the On the Spot newsletter, SIST, the Slovenian Institute for Standardization, had a chance to look back and recap 2023.

This year, Standards Norway celebrated its centennial jubilee.

The world of standardization was among the reference interlocutors at COP 28 in Dubai. UNI, the Italian Standardization Committee, was present in forces to this crucial event for future environmental strategies.

Ahead of the 2024 European elections, ANEC has joined other stakeholders working on fire safety in the EU in launching a campaign that calls for an EU Fire Safety Strategy.

The ETUC participated to the second meeting of the European Commission’s High-Level Forum on Standardization (HLF), held in Brussels on Thursday 30 November. The Forum, chaired by Commissioner Thierry Breton, gathered the various stakeholders involved in standardization to discuss priorities and horizontal issues, including international leadership and education and skills.

The Bulgarian Institute for Standardization (BDS) and the Romanian Standards Association (ASRO), in partnership with four universities, are successfully advancing in the implementation of the project “B-Green-ED - Boosting the Green Future via University Micro-Credentials”, funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission.

The 28th World Climate Change Conference, COP28, will take place in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December 2023. Representatives of nearly 200 nations will come together to agree on ways to address the climate crisis, such as limiting global temperature rise to 1,5 degrees Celsius, helping vulnerable communities adapt to the effects of climate change, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Between 24 and 27 October 2023, the 1^st Autumn School of Standardization, organized by SIST, Slovenia’s National Standardization Body, took place at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana. Twenty students from different study programs attended the extracurricular activity. The aim of the Autumn School of Standardization is to bring standardization closer to future engineers and give them the opportunity to get a deeper understanding of standardization and its impact on modern society.

On 16 October, the Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST) organized its first RAST Conference, an event to celebrate World Standards Day, to raise awareness to the importance of standards, and to present the benefits of using standards through success stories from prominent Slovenian companies. The conference, which took place at Brdo Congress Centre, offered the participants  a wealth of content on current global challenges.

The Romanian Standards Association (ASRO) marks a significant milestone as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Established on 2nd October 1998, ASRO has unwaveringly championed for quality, safety, and efficiency, shaping the Romanian market as an integral part of the European Single Market.
