CEN and CENELEC welcome the European Commission’s publication of the Quantum Europe Strategy, released in July 2025. The strategy outlines a comprehensive vision for Europe’s leadership in quantum technologies, emphasizing the pivotal role of standardization in ensuring interoperability, fostering innovation, and accelerating the commercialization of quantum solutions.
The European Commission, together with the members of the High-Level Forum on European Standardization (HLF), consider Quantum as a priority policy. Therefore, they decided to give this topic a separate space for political and technical discussions in the framework of the newly opened Workstream 16.
Quantum Technology is a promising field in the development of skills to navigate the digital transition. To steer work on standardization in this rapidly advancing field, CEN and CENELEC recently published two important documents: a Standardization Roadmap and a report on Quantum Technologies Use Cases. The two documents provide a comprehensive vision on the European standardization needs for quantum computing, quantum communication and quantum metrology.
